ChatGPT Ads Have Arrived in Southeast Asia. What Should Brands Do First?

People rarely arrive in ChatGPT with a neat, two-word search. They describe a problem. They explain their budget, preferences and doubts. Then they ask for help weighing the options.

Brands now have a paid way to appear during some of those conversations.

On 23 September 2026, OpenAI announced the rollout of ChatGPT Ads in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, alongside Taiwan. Eligible businesses in these markets have access to its self-service Ads Manager. The current country list names all six Southeast Asian markets, though eligibility depends on where the advertising and billing entity is based.

For brands working across Singapore and the Philippines, the first question is whether your offer makes sense at the moment someone is comparing options.

What is ChatGPT Ads Manager?

Ads Manager is OpenAI’s beta platform for creating and managing ads in ChatGPT. Advertisers set up campaigns and budgets, then review impressions, clicks and spend. OpenAI says the product will continue to evolve.

Ads appear separately from ChatGPT’s response and carry a sponsored label. OpenAI says advertisers cannot use ads to alter an answer or influence which businesses ChatGPT names. Users on Free and Go plans might see ads; Plus, Pro and Business accounts do not. OpenAI also says advertisers do not receive users’ private conversations. Its advertising FAQ explains the current rules.

Paying for a ChatGPT ad does not buy a recommendation from ChatGPT.

Why this changes the brief for advertisers

Consider someone planning an office move. They might ask about location, lease flexibility and the experience of hosting clients. An ad in this context has a better chance of being useful if it addresses those concerns and leads to a page with specifics. A broad claim about being the “best workspace” gives the buyer little to work with.

The same applies to hospitality, travel, professional services and consumer products. OpenAI says ad selection considers signals including conversation context, landing pages, ad copy and targeting settings. Relevance and bids both play a role when several ads qualify. Those signals give brands a reason to review the offer and destination page before spending. They do not guarantee results.

Across Southeast Asia, regional reach still needs local judgment. A buyer in Singapore and a buyer in the Philippines might expect different information about price, delivery, proof and who to contact.

Paid visibility and AI visibility are different jobs

A brand now has two questions to examine:

  1. Does a relevant paid ad appear while someone explores this need? Ads Manager addresses paid placement.
  2. Does an AI tool describe the business accurately in an unpaid answer? Clear positioning, accessible information and credible evidence help with this broader question. No advertiser controls the answer.

We explain the second question in our guide to AI visibility for Philippine and Singapore businesses and our article on GEO and SEO.

An ad might earn a visit. The landing page still has to answer the visitor’s questions. These seven website mistakes offer a useful starting point for reviewing that path.

A sensible first test for a Southeast Asian brand

Choose one buying decision. Start with a specific situation, such as a buyer comparing packaging suppliers or a company reviewing workspace options. Name the audience, market and reason to act.

Write for the decision. Explain what the offer does, who it serves, where it is available and what evidence supports your claims. Make sure the landing page delivers on the ad.

Check the path after the click. Does the page answer questions about price, service area, lead times or next steps? Is the contact route obvious?

Set a test budget and measure useful actions. Review clicks alongside qualified enquiries and sales where measurement allows. Ads Manager is still in beta, so check its current reporting options before setting targets. A click is not a customer.

Review results by market. Keep the language, offer, landing page and follow-up aligned with each audience. If a campaign underperforms, inspect the full customer journey before drawing a conclusion about the channel.

ChatGPT Ads give Southeast Asian advertisers another place to reach people as they weigh a decision. A focused test makes sense when the offer is clear and the destination page is ready. If the business still struggles to explain what it does, start there.
